Admission Requirements
Admission to MIPS occurs on a rolling basis and requires the following:
A bachelor's degree
Previous work experience preferred (Résumé/CV)
TOEFL/IELTS if English is not your native language
A written personal statement detailing your professional interests and goals
Three letters of recommendation
The MIPS degree is online, although opportunities to spend a summer at MSU may be possible. Participants are likely to be international practitioners seeking a US degree from a major research university, as well as U.S. based students planning to work in an international context.

Our program faculty have extensive international experience with most having studied and practiced planning in different countries in Asia, Europe, Australia as well as the United States.
Meet the Director
Mark Wilson
Mark Wilson is Professor of Urban and Regional Planning in the School of Planning, Design and Construction at Michigan State University, and Director of the International Planning Studies Program. Research and teaching interests address urban planning, disruptive technologies, mega-events, and economic development. Current projects include the urban implications of autonomous technologies; planning for industrial parks in Africa and the Middle East; mega-event planning for world’s fairs and Olympics; and the role of innovation, knowledge, and information technology in urban development. His academic background focused on economics and regional science with degrees from the University of Melbourne, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and the University of Pennsylvania.
